About Haringey
Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.
Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.
About the role
In an era of rapid change, we’re looking for a forward‑thinking Strategic Risk Advisor to help shape how we manage risk across the organisation. This role goes far beyond maintaining registers or ticking compliance boxes—it’s about providing real insight that enables us to take smart risks and ultimately improve outcomes for the people who live and work in Haringey. You’ll guide the evolution of our risk management practice, acting as the bridge between complex technical data and executive decision‑making.
Reporting to the Head of Audit and Risk Management, your day‑to‑day work will include maintaining an accurate and forward‑looking Corporate Risk Register, leading high‑quality reporting for the Corporate Leadership Team and Audit Committee, and delivering engaging workshops to strengthen risk understanding across the organisation. You’ll use JCAD to monitor and update corporate risks, and you’ll stay ahead of emerging threats—from digital transformation and AI governance to shifts in national policy—ensuring our approach remains robust, modern, and strategic.
About the team
You’ll join a friendly, close‑knit Audit and Risk Management team with extensive experience working across local government. Collaboration and shared learning are core to how we work. You’ll also partner with colleagues across Performance, Governance, Finance, Programme Management, Internal Audit, Anti‑Fraud, and Insurance teams, as well as Members through the Audit Committee. It’s an environment where your expertise will directly support good governance and strategic decision‑making at the highest levels
About you
We’re looking for someone who can turn complex risks and data into a compelling narrative that informs action. You’ll bring a strong track record in risk management—ideally within a large, complex public‑sector or regulated environment—and confidence in constructively challenging senior leaders. You communicate clearly, simplify technical concepts for non‑specialists, and write to a high professional standard.
You’ll ideally hold (or be working toward) a recognised risk qualification such as IRM or ALARM, and you’ll have experience using risk management tools like JCAD. Most importantly, you bring a proactive, solutions‑focused mindset, with a passion for continuous improvement and a “can‑do” approach to embedding a strong, risk‑aware culture.
Working for Haringey
